    Description

Kate Shea Baird talks about her article, Lessons from the pandemic for the municipalists in Spain, on the This is Hell! podcast, commenting on US politics and Spanish municipalism. Beginning with the question of why Trump is so frightened at the movements that question the systems of power and create new forms of political structure. According to Kate, coalitions are currently coming together and have the capacity to build majorities that will be able to change the rules of the game.

The conversation also mentions Joan Subirats’ book, The Power of Proximity and the basic premise of municipalism. Introducing the idea that in politics, it is just not enough for progressive policies, municipalism intends to change the way decisions are being made.

The pandemic has put the politics of our everyday life in the center. Kate comments how this has brought forward transformative issue that affect people on a day-to-day basis. Diving deep into the difference between localism and municipalism and the role of humanity!
